Cita Dennis Hubbell Branch, New Orleans Public Library
725 Pelican Avenue, New Orleans LA 70114
The Hubbell Library is at the corner of Pelican Avenue and Belleville Street in the Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans. Parking is on-street (watch for some two-hour parking zones), but of course you can walk there, there's a bike rack in the yard, and the location is served by RTA bus routes. If you're coming from the east bank, a nice way to get to the library is to ride the free* Canal Street Ferry and walk seven pleasant blocks.
Public transit
There are bus stops within a block of the library. You should check the Regional Transit Authority site or call 800-957-6045 for schedules and to verify service. Routes include:
- 101 Algiers Loop - service from the east bank - nearby stop is Verret at Pelican
- 108 Algiers Local - west bank only route - nearby stop is Elmira at Pelican
The Canal Street Ferry is free* and departs from—you guessed it—the foot of Canal Street (google map). It accomodates pedestrians, bicycles and cars. Call Crescent City Connection (CCC) marine operations at 504-376-8114 or CCC police at 504-376-8180 for schedules and to verify service. As of November 2007, the ferry is running from 6 am to midnight.
* For pedestrians and bicyclists, the ferry is free in both directions. For motorists, it's $1 per car when going from Algiers Point to Canal Street.
