We're New Orleans' oldest public library, a Carnegie library built in 1907. Our building has weathered the deadliest of hurricanes with barely a scratch. It did not flood after Hurricane Katrina; it's above sea level. Learn more about our history, and about the status of our library!

Update
The Hubbell Library is open for business in a temporary location at the carriage house behind the Algiers Courthouse. Meanwhile, our permanent location on Pelican Avenue is closed for major repairs and renovation. That project should have been well underway by now, but it's complicated.
Money was budgeted for structural repairs and renovation, and an architect was selected. Unfortunately, the architect then determined that the budgeted amount is not enough for the work! Now the whole thing is up in the air. We're very concerned that the temporary location might close before work has even begun on repairing our historic permanent building.
